Frequently Asked Questions

What does membership include?

Events, where you get to meet other like-minded professionals and build your network of low-waste resources. Access to educational courses, videos and other news to help build your knowledge and guide your progress in low-waste practices. And, at the Premium level, a custom content platform to showcase your story and business through our events, blog and social media channels.

How does the membership work?

By joining the GFDA, you’re committing to reducing your landfill contribution. In return, you receive a resource guide, a robust community and events to help guide and motivate your firm’s sustainability journey.

I already make low-waste practices my priority. What else can membership offer me?

That’s great. The GFDA is building a movement and together we can scale our environmental impact. Through GFDA events, resources and social networking, members can learn from each other and discover new low-waste products and services.

Is this a zero-waste movement?

No. We’re realistic. Our movement is about decreasing your contribution to our landfill system. Incremental change and recruiting more people to our cause are the ways to creating real impact we can measure.

I don’t have any sustainability practices in place, can I still join?

Yes! We welcome anyone who wants to learn and do better by our planet. We created the GFDA to help you preserve your right to make a living all while preserving the planet.

How is this different than LEED?

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world's most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits. Certification is rigorous and is commonly applied to commercial and institutional projects. We are focused on education, consulting services and partnerships that help members connect with community to learn how reduce wasteful practices and create healthier environments for their clients.

Where are GFDA Chapters?

We have chapters in San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, and Los Angeles. If you’re interested in starting a chapter in your area, get in touch!

Will my member data be publicly available?

No. We take privacy very seriously. Your individual data will not be shared or made publicly available. The data we collect is for our internal use only.

Is the GFDA a non-profit?

The Good Future Design Alliance is a registered California Public Benefit Corp. The GFDA Fund is fiscally sponsored by the SD Mayer Foundation on our behalf. The SD Mayer Foundation is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under Section 501(c)(3) of the Code as a tax-exempt public charity (Federal Tax ID: 32-0477420). The SD Mayer Foundation receives contributions and disburses those contributions to charities in the form of grants to further charitable and educational purposes. The GFDA's mission is to raise the public consciousness around construction industry waste and its contribution to climate change and to human health concerns. Donations to the GFDA Fund are tax deductible. Membership dues go to our operating budget and are not tax deductible.

How do I updated my payment information?

The GFDA Membership dues are paid annually. You can change your payment info - or method through the renewal process by simply re-entering your new Credit Card info or change the payment method to bank transfer.
